FLESH and the FRAME is an exhibition that examines how figures and bodies are articulated and represented in contemporary artwork in a photographic context. The show is currently being exhibited in the Concourse Gallery at Emily Carr University from October 31st – November 7th.
Closing night party: Friday, November 6th, 2009. 7pm-10pm at Emily Carr University.
Address: 1399 Johnston Street, Granville Island, Vancouver BC / V6H 3R9
Painters - photographers - multimedia artists - and more.
We are showcasing multidisciplinary work that features direct, allusive, and vernacular depictions of the body and how these depictions interacts with photographic concepts of memory, the idea of the document, the physicality/virtuality of an image, as well as cultural understandings/conditionings around photographic imagery.
It is not a showcase of work that is simply photorealist or is directly based from photographs – we will be selecting artwork that challenges normal associations of a photographic process. We will also be featuring work that reinterprets photography in the context of a language and demonstrates how this language can be used to conceptualize and structure artistic expression.
Work is by students, staff, and faculty of the Emily Carr University. Everyone is welcome, and strongly encouraged to bring many friends and other interested parties.
